GPS Insight, a provider of GPS fleet tracking software, has partnered with Garmin (NASDAQ:GRMN), a provider of satellite navigation, to provide support for the fleet 590 portable connected fleet management and navigation device. GPS Insight has been selected by Garmin to integrate with the fleet 590 as it becomes commercially available. The fleet 590 is portable and does not require direct hard wiring to the vehicle. It consists of a black box, cable, and antenna. It has a 5-inch touch display and Garmin's navigation interface, and plugs into the cigarette lighter. It detects driver behavior and allows the fleet manager to assess the driver's safety characteristics and driving habits. An embedded three-axis accelerometer within the device allows speeding, excessive braking, jack-rabbiting and sharp turning to be logged.
