Compression, DPI Standards Get ANSI Nod
The American National Standards Institute has approved two SCTE standards, one on compression and the other on digital program insertion (DPI).ANSI/SCTE 104 2012, "Automation System to Compression System Communications Applications Program Interface (API)," defines the communications API between an automation system and the associated compression system that will insert SCTE 35 private sections into the outgoing transport stream. The standard serves as a companion to both SCTE 35 and SCTE 30.ANSI/SCTE 35 2012, "Digital Program Insertion Cueing Message for Cable," supports frame accurate signaling of events in MPEG-2 transport streams along with associated descriptive data. The standard supports the splicing of MPEG-2 transport streams for the purpose of digital program insertion, which includes ad insertion and insertion of other content types.
