Airgain 5G smart repeater platform debuts at MWC Barcelona 2023

Feb. 27, 2023
New technology is designed to extend range and enhance 5G coverage while reducing broadband operators’ capital expenses.

At this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC Barcelona 2023), the global provider of wireless connectivity technologies Airgain, Inc. (NASDAQ: AIRG), whose products include embedded components, external antennas, and integrated systems, has introduced its Lighthouse smart repeaters. The new products are designed to significantly reduce broadband operators' capital expenses for extending wireless broadband range, while enhancing 5G transmission coverage for improved customer experiences.

The product release extends Airgain’s streamlined end-to-end 5G platform which includes fixed wireless access (FWA) technology, repeaters, and enterprise software management capabilities. The new Airgain repeaters will begin trials on major operator networks in Q2 2023.

This family of products lauched at MWC 2023 includes both low-power small office and home office (SOHO) repeaters and high-power network repeaters for mobile network operators (MNO) and end users.

Technology highlights of the Lighthouse smart repeaters include:

  • Advanced carrier aggregation (CA) for FR1-FR1 CA (while futureproofing for FR1-FR2 CA).
  • Low latency features in compliance with 3GPP requirements.
  • Software upgradeability to support 3GPP with network-controlled repeater (NCR) standards.

The Lighthouse smart repeaters are equipped with proprietary smart antenna technology, designed to improve the signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) and speed up deployment times, with aid from a software management stack powered by Errigal’s enterprise platform.

Dr. Ali Sadri, CTO at Airgain, remarked:

“Enhancing 5G network coverage and improving end user experience is critical for MNOs. With our expertise in cellular and antenna technology, we set out to build a solution from the ground up that we believe solves many of the common problems MNOs are likely facing in their deployments of 5G networks. We believe that by offering advanced, out-of-the-box features and futureproofing our repeaters through upgradability, we can significantly reduce deployment costs and simplify broadband wireless connectivity.”

Airgain is showcasing the repeaters and other technologies at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona from Feb. 27 – March 2.
