Metronet on Nov. 21 announced that construction of its 100 percent fiber-optic network has officially begun in St. Joseph, Missouri. Through the ISP's fully-funded multimillion-dollar investment in the deployment, St. Joseph residents and businesses will have the opportunity to access Metronet’s future-proof fiber optic internet services. Upon completion of the two-year construction process, St. Joseph will join the nation’s "internet elite" as a Certified Gigabit City.
“Fulfilling St. Joseph’s need for ultra-high-speed fiber-optic internet that has the ability support our residents and businesses is a priority,” said St. Joseph Mayor John Josendale. “I’m confident that Metronet’s investment will better equip the City of St. Joseph with best-in-class technology, preparing us for our continued economic growth and boosting quality of life.”
Construction has begun near the northern part of St. Joseph, in the North Ridge Estates Subdivision, and is expanding rapidly throughout the city with the first customers expected to be connected by spring of 2024.
As construction continues throughout the city, customers may sign up for presale, which will indicate their interest and prioritize service installation once available. (Those interested in Metronet services may visit shop.metronet.com to be notified once their address is available for installation and to access presale.)
St. Joseph residents will begin seeing Metronet trucks throughout the area as construction activities expand throughout the community. Residents will receive communication by mail about construction activity in their neighborhood 30 days prior to starting. Additional messaging, such as yard signs, will also be provided to notify residents of when construction is beginning in their neighborhood. Metronet crews are identified by ID tags and branded Metronet vehicles. Metronet plans to hire local market management positions, sales and customer service professionals and service technicians to support the St. Joseph area.
“The City of St. Joseph will be supported by a future-proof infrastructure that will be able to scale to even faster speeds, enhancing the online experience for residents and businesses,” concluded Metronet CEO John Cinelli. “Reliable internet access is critical, and we are proud to soon serve St. Joseph as the second community in Missouri that will have the opportunity to tap into Metronet’s symmetrical, multi-gigabit fiber optic internet.”
