Fiber broadband upgrade project will further strengthen the reliability of existing high-speed internet service, while building a future-proof network to meet the long-term connectivity needs of the rapidly growing Rio Rancho area.

Sparklight reports that it it is on schedule to complete a $10 million upgrade to its fiber-rich broadband communications network in Rio Rancho, New Mexico by Spring 2023. Sparklight began construction on the $10 million fiber-optic network infrastructure upgrade last fall.

“An investment of this size truly demonstrates Sparklight’s commitment to delivering fast and reliable internet to our residential and business customers,” said Richard Estrada, Sparklight's Rio Rancho general manager. “Our teams are working hard to complete this project so that we can continue to stay ahead of our customers’ evolving digital needs with a robust, state-of-the-art network.”

The provider said the project will further strengthen the reliability of existing high-speed internet service, while building a future-proof network to meet the long-term connectivity needs of the rapidly growing Rio Rancho area. Sparklight launched 1 Gig internet service to Rio Rancho residential customers in 2017, and in 2018 launched 2 Gig symmetrical internet speeds to business customers.

The provider said the current infrastructure upgrade paves the way for faster download and upload speeds, enhanced streaming and gaming capabilities, and uninterrupted connections in multi-device homes.

Work on the Rio Rancho infrastructure upgrade is projected to be completed by spring 2023. The company anticipates the possibility of intermittent service interruptions during construction. Notification will be sent to customers prior to work being conducted in their area. An up-to-date construction list is also available online at www.sparklight.com/riorancho.

“We greatly appreciate the level of support that we have received from the City of Rio Rancho as well as the continued patience and cooperation of our fellow community members as we work to enhance services throughout the area,” Estrada concluded.

With investments of nearly $950 million over the past three years across its footprint, Sparklight notes it is steadily laying the groundwork to launch 10G network speeds, creating new possibilities for smart cities, connected homes, virtual and augmented reality applications, and businesses.
