Comcast Business (NASDAQ:CMCSA) has completed a nearly $1.7 million fiber-optic network expansion project in downtown New Haven, CT. New Haven is the second largest city in the state and home to Yale University.

Comcast's network is now delivering up to 10 Gbps of Ethernet capacity to businesses between Tower Lane and State Street. Available business services include Ethernet, Internet, voice, WiFi and TV solutions to small- and medium-sized companies and large enterprises.

The expansion impacts the downtown areas along Church, Orange, Audubon, Elm, State, and Temple streets as well as on Tower Lane in neighborhoods adjacent to Yale University, Yale New Haven Hospital and New Haven's Union Station.

"New Haven is a unique city in Connecticut - located on Long Island Sound, not far from New York and home to one of the oldest, most prestigious schools in the country - making it the ideal location for small and medium-sized organizations to large enterprises to operate," said New Haven Mayor Toni Harp. "Comcast's investment strengthens our local economy by offering businesses the technology infrastructure needed to better service customers and the community."

"Speed of communication is a top priority for business, and Comcast is hitting it head on," said Tony Rescigno, president of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce. "Their efforts are helping to solve key concerns of business which will, in turn, help build our state's economy."
