Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA) has teamed with EdgeConnex and GREATER MSP (Minneapolis Saint Paul Regional Economic Development Partnership) on a new data center in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area. The Minneapolis Edge Data Center (EDC) is intended to accelerate local innovation and entrepreneurship through Internet and cloud services.
EdgeConneX's model is to deploy facilities in as many markets across a region as possible, and extend the Internet's edge as close to enterprises and end-users as possible. To date, the company has built 23 data centers across the United States. The Minneapolis EDC is intended to provide secure interconnectivity between all of the region's major data centers and Internet service providers via the Midwest Internet Cooperative Exchange (MICE). The remote switch is intended to support regional MICE members, which include ISPs, application service providers, carriers, cable companies, VoIP providers, government entities, academic institutions and content providers.
