Cox Communications has tapped company veteran Steve Necessary to lead product development and management for the organization.

In his new executive vice president role, Necessary is responsible for all product development and life cycle management across residential and commercial businesses, reporting directly to Cox President Pat Esser.

Necessary previously served as vice president of video product development and management and has led the broader organization in an interim role for the past several months.

Prior to joining Cox in January 2005, Necessary served as president of the VOD division of Concurrent (NASDAQ:CCUR). Previously, he spent more than 20 years with Scientific-Atlanta and held several senior management positions in marketing and general management before becoming CEO of the company's PowerTV software subsidiary.
