The city of Longmont, CO, is launching a GPON-based municipal voice and data network designed to provide data speeds of up to 1 Gbps. Longmont Power & Communications will operate the gigabit fiber network, which is being constructed in six phases; phase 1 is scheduled to begin construction in August.

The deployment includes gear from Calix (NYSE:CALX), including its E7-20 Ethernet Service Access Platform (ESAP), 836GE Residential Services Gateways (SG), and 700GE family of indoor optical network terminals (ONTs).
