Charter Gooses In-Home WiFi with NETGEAR
Charter Communications (NASDAQ:CHTR) is launching a solution that combines its high-speed Internet with a new WiFi router from NETGEAR (NASDAQ:NTGR) that uses both the 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz bands. Now, Charter high-speed Internet can be accessed from all of a sub's wireless devices via the new router.Charter partnered with NETGEAR to develop a solution that utilizes NETGEAR hardware and Charter-specific software/firmware. The current equipment utilizes the NETGEAR WNDR3800. Charter will update the hardware over time as new WiFi technologies become relevant. The new router utilizes high-powered radios to provide better range and also features dual band concurrent operation to enable customers to take advantage of the less congested 5 GHz frequency band while simultaneously operating a network on the 2.4 GHz band to ensure older devices that are not 5 GHz capable can still connect. Charter says that during both testing in its own labs and by a third-party test facility, the router delivered up to 30 Mbps up to 120 feet from the router.
