Big Helping of Chips at CES

The chip vendors were out in force at CES in Las Vegas this year, with both new silicon and deployment announcements.Broadcom (NASDAQ:BRCM) announced that its fourth generation DOCSIS 3.0 system-on-a-chip (SoC) solutions have achieved 1 Gbps downstream speeds by bonding up to 24x8 DOCSIS channels.Entropic (NASDAQ:ENTR) made a couple announcements, including the port of Audible Magic's SmartID ACR (automatic content recognition) technology onto Entropic's set-top SoC, as well as the use of Entropic's TSC188 CPU in a Technicolor (Euronext Paris:TCH) multi-tuner gateway based on Comcast's (NASDAQ:CMCSA) RDK.Intel's (NASDAQ:INTC) Puma 6MG is at the heart of ARRIS' (NASDAQ:ARRS) new whole-home gateway, also based on the Comcast RDK.ViXS is developing its own reference design based on Intel's Puma 6 DOCSIS 3.0 SoC and ViXS' network media processing transcoder and MoCA 2.0 SoCs. Also, LG Electronics has chosen the ViXS XCode 4200 family of network media processors and SoCs for its PVR STB model.
