Vecima retools Entra Remote MACPHY + DPoE/Remote OLT software amid soaring Q3 results

The company says its new R22.1 software release builds on the passive optical network (PON) interoperability of its Entra Virtual Distributed Access Architecture (vDAA) and Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) products.

Vecima Networks Inc. (TSX: VCM) has now introduced a new software release for its Entra Remote MACPHY and DPoE (DOCSIS Provisioning of EPON) / 10G EPON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network) Unified Cable Access Solution platform products.

The software release fortuitously aligns with the company's May 12 financial announcement touting its towering Q3 Fiscal 2022 results, which it said have soared as a result of mounting Entra platform sales. (For the quarter, the company reported revenue reaching a consecutive all-time high of $50.9 million, elevated 60% YoY and 17% QoQ.)

A product press release from May 11 stated that the 10th iteration of the Entra Virtual Distributed Access Architecture (vDAA) and Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) software now provides increased network scalability and virtualization capability as it improves improves usability and network management, while also improving network capacity, and video core integration leverage for service providers.

With more leakage detection support and improved support for high-split RF configurations as a provision of the new software, cable access network operators can now provide purer upstream bandwidth up to 1.2 Gbps. As further reckoned by Vecima, the enhanced feature set allows for 2 Gbps downstream by 1 Gbps upstream service offerings to business and residential customers across their cable access footprint.

Other key features of the software release allow broadband service providers to deploy virtualized controllers to support hundreds of Remote MACPHY and/or DPoE/EPON nodes in nationwide or regional data centers, providing increased operational efficiency with security and scalability, all while maintaining low latencies.

On the hardware side of the equation, late last year Vecima debuted its Generic Access Platform (GAP) node, the Entra EN9000, with full support for DOCSIS 4.0 and 1.8 GHz RF transmission. The node was initially made available as a 4-port, Remote MACPHY (R-MACPHY) enabled cable access node.
