Adara helps Quebec's CCAP realize multi-gigabit broadband speeds, plus HD/4K channels

Dec. 7, 2020
Responding to increased demand due to COVID via help from Adara Technologies, CCAP says it can now increase its top broadband speed by 10x when needed.

Adara Technologies Inc., a specialist in solutions for mid-sized cable service providers, this month announced that its customer Coopérative de Câblodistribution de L'Arrière Pays (CCAP) of Quebec City, a triple-play service provider with approximately 20,000 subscribers, has completed a further expansion with Adara's Bandwidth Reclamation Solution technology.

Providing the bandwidth headroom and capacity now to increase the operator's top tier speed by 10x to multi-gigabit when needed to keep up with steadily increasing customer demand, Adara says its Bandwidth Reclamation Solution has also already enabled CCAP to simultaneously deliver 190 HD and UHD/4K video channels to their set-top box offering, an increase of four dozen such channels with more being added each quarter,

Noting that there is no bandwidth limit for the technology, among its many distinctive features, Adara says its Bandwidth Reclamation Solution deploys without any customer disruption, giving service providers the necessary bandwidth they need quickly and without the major customer revenue losses typically associated with massively customer-disruptive techniques that can cost upwards of ten times that of Adara’s solution.

The Adara platform also leverages “codec-awareness” – a unique feature that distinguishes between MPEG2 and MPEG4 – thereby enabling the bandwidth efficiencies of MPEG4 without the need for a "costly, customer-disruptive and time-consuming forklift replacement of MPEG2 set-top boxes," says Adara.

The company adds:

The benefit is that the [Bandwidth Reclamation Solution] can quickly free up significant amounts of operator bandwidth so that it can be immediately used for multi-Gigabit Broadband expansion using DOCSIS 3.0, 3.1 or 4.0 (Full Duplex). This is especially important now as providers look to respond aggressively to increased bandwidth demands brought on by the COVID-19 crisis.

“The extraordinary capability of the Adara Solution and partnership to provide massive additional bandwidth enables us to compete and win against our growing competition,” said Stéphane Arseneau, CCAP’s General Manager. “It provides us with the significant headroom to immediately increase our High Speed Internet offerings and, at the same time, enable our transition to a dependable IPTV service delivered reliably over DOCSIS.”

“Over the past several years which we have partnered with CCAP, our unified goal has been to deliver worry-free bandwidth-on-demand,” added Joseph Nucara, CEO and Co-founder of Adara. “This has permitted CCAP to focus on customer experience differentiation like increased Broadband capacity and IPTV migration rather than, every year, wasting valuable resources in search of more bandwidth. And especially now, in response to the many changes brought about by this pandemic, operators need shorter-term plays that can respond more aggressively to increased bandwidth requirements while at the same time insuring little to no customer disruption. Our SIPV Bandwidth Reclamation Solution answers all those requirements.”
