Atlantic Broadband is expanding its gigabit Internet deployment for residential and business customers in its Pocono and Schuylkill service areas in Pennsylvania, as well as Cumberland, MD. The 1 Gbps deployments are based on DOCSIS 3.1.

The launch is part of Atlantic Broadband's expansion initiative scheduled to be completed by the end of the summer, at which time 1 Gbps Internet is expected to be available to most of its service footprint, across 11 states from Maine to Florida.

Atlantic Broadband launched gigabit Internet in Connecticut in 2016 and a year later in its Miami footprint. Additional launches occurred in 2018 in its New Hampshire/Maine, Southern Maryland, and Aiken, South Carolina service areas.

"Atlantic Broadband is committed to providing customers in its Pocono and Schuylkill service areas with the latest gigabit Internet speeds," said Curt Kosko, Atlantic Broadband's senior vice president and general manager, Pennsylvania. "This expansion will provide highly reliable, transformative Internet speeds to not only homes and businesses throughout Pennsylvania, but across our national footprint as well."

"With the wide availability of gigabit service, cable is putting in place the broadband infrastructure to power the emerging technologies and applications," said Mark Walker, director of technology policy at CableLabs. "This will transform and enhance our lives through immersive entertainment, next-generation healthcare and a re-imagination of education and work."
