Accedo has launched a targeted advertising solution for augmented reality (AR) with the API integration of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Elemental MediaTailor.

The Accedo AR experience, powered by the company's Accedo One video platform, is designed to give a TV viewer a more personalized and engaging second-screen experience during long-distance sports events such as marathons, rally, or bicycle races.

AWS Elemental MediaTailor is a cloud-based video service designed to let customers insert targeted advertising into video streams without sacrificing quality of service. With AWS Elemental MediaTailor, viewers of live or on-demand video each receive a stream that combines content with ads personalized to them.

The integration combines the Accedo One video platform with AWS Elemental MediaTailor to allow video service providers, brands and broadcasters to monetize content with targeted advertising in the AR environment. It's also designed to address the technical challenges associated with AR device fragmentation, live video synchronization, and other information elements.

Fredrik Anderson, SVP of strategy and solutions at Accedo, said: "Having launched our AR prototype earlier this year, we have demonstrated the ability to deliver an extra dimension to certain types of programming. Being able to add targeted advertising with our AWS integration will be extremely attractive to media companies, especially for live sports content, which tends to attract a large audience."

The combined solution is designed to let video providers augment live broadcasts with additional information or experiences, including adding extremely targeted advertising within the AR environment.

Accedo will demonstrate its AR experience and integration with AWS Elemental MediaTailor at IBC in September.
