Casa Systems (NASDAQ: CASA) has unveiled the Axyom Virtual Broadband Network Gateway (vBNG) Router. The system is designed to provide advanced subscriber management and routing capabilities for both OpenStack and container-based cloud networks, particularly in support of 5G broadband requirements.
The Axyom vBNG disaggregates network functions, streamlines packet flows and enables independent and dynamic scaling of control and data planes, says Casa. The system can be scaled from a centralized location for large capacity deployments and/or used as part of a disaggregated architecture in which data plane processing is distributed to the network edge. The vBNG offers IPv4/v6 unicast and multicast routing and MPLS functions to enable such deployments.
The system also is designed to work with Casa’s OLT-M NETCONF or OpenFlow based management platform and the OLT-A, a high-capacity OLT that supports next-generation XGS-PON or NG-PON2 networks. The vBNG is part of Casa’s 5G converged software architecture, which also includes mobile (4G/5G Core and Apex small cell access solutions), cable (vCCAP Core and Distributed Access) and fixed (vBNG/OLT) components.
Casa says that “top tier service providers” have launched trials of the Axyom vBNG.
