Midco has launched its Midco Xstream Gig gigabit Internet service in Bismarck-Mandan service area of North Dakota, including Bismarck and seven surrounding communities.

The MSO says the DOCSIS 3.1-based service, which is available to both residential and business customers, is now available to more than 70% of its customers. Midco's goal is to reach 80% of its customers with gigabit by the end of the year.

Midco's first DOCSIS 3.1 deployment was in Fargo, ND, in March, followed by other deployments in the Dakotas and Minnesota, most recently in Huron and Yankton, SD. Early deployments have used CCAP gear from Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO) and modems from ARRIS (NASDAQ:ARRS) and Hitron Technologies. Midco plans to add other vendors' DOCSIS 3.1 modems as they become available.
