RCN announced plans to deploy gigabit Internet speeds based on DOCSIS 3.1 in Chicago, including the communities of Skokie and Lincolnwood.
The company plans to offer Internet speeds up to 1 Gbps in all of its serviceable areas in and around Chicago with no contracts or data caps. Pricing will start at $69.99/month for 12 months.
"The capacity provided by 1 gigabit is massive, and it more than keeps up with the explosive growth of Internet usage," said Chris Fenger, chief operating officer for RCN. "Year-over-year Internet usage is increasing 35-50%, and the average home now has 7.8 Internet-connected devices, which represents an increase of 64 million devices over the past year alone. This continued trend confirms that DOCSIS 3.1 is a critical technology for the future, enabling not only gigabit Internet speeds, but also future enhancements such as IP video and other advanced services. RCN remains committed to staying at the forefront of innovation to offer customers the fastest speeds, increased reliability and the best customer experience."
