ARRIS (NASDAQ:ARRS) has announced its first DOCSIS 3.1 modems for operators and retailers.
ARRIS (NASDAQ:ARRS) has announced its first DOCSIS 3.1 modems for operators and retailers.

ARRIS (NASDAQ:ARRS) says its SURFboard SB8200 retail cable modem has received DOCSIS 3.1 certification from CableLabs. Next steps include getting the modem approved by various cable operators, including Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA), as being compatible with their services. ARRIS expects the gigabit-capable modem to be ready later this year, with retail availability following shortly thereafter.

ARRIS previewed the new modem at INTX in Boston in May, along with several other items of DOCSIS 3.1 CPE such as modems, gateways and EMTAs.
