Google Fiber (NASDAQ:GOOG) says it's looking into bringing its gigabit-capable Internet service to Dallas. The company is preparing for talks with city leaders to examine existing infrastructure, as well as the local legal and regulatory environment. Google's checklist for candidate cities is available here.
Google Fiber is currently available in five cities (Atlanta; Austin, TX; Kansas City; Nashville; and Provo, UT) and is in either the planning or construction stage in six more (Salt Lake City; San Francisco; San Antonio, TX; Huntsville, AL; and Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham, NC). Besides Dallas, the company is also considering 11 other cities as potential candidates:
- Portland, OR
- San Jose, Los Angeles, Irvine and San Diego, CA
- Phoenix
- Oklahoma City
- Chicago
- Louisville, KY
- Jacksonville and Tampa, FL
