As part of its TWC Maxx upgrade program in Dallas, Time Warner Cable (NYSE:TWC) has begun the rollout of faster Internet speeds in the area, with the first wave of customers now having access to Internet speeds of up to 300 Mbps. All six of TWC's Internet packages are expected to see speed increases by the end of the year as part of the upgrade program, which also includes video and network reliability upgrades.
Starting this week, more than 50,000 TWC Internet customers in the Dallas area will receive the faster speeds as part of the first phase of the rollout. Areas in the first phase include Betts Road, North Irving, Plano and Richardson. The Arlington, Bedford, Dan Morton, Frisco, Lamar (N. Arlington), Mesquite and Thornton areas are expected to get the faster speeds by the end of June.
TWC has also rolled out almost 5,000 WiFi hotspots in Dallas in outdoor areas and indoor small business locations, with more scheduled to be added through 2015.
TWC Maxx was announced in January 2014, and the first TWC markets to get the upgrades were Los Angeles and New York City. The project has been expanded to several other markets since, and more are planned.
