At IBC, Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) introduced MediaFirst, a cloud-based platform intended to embrace all content sources and delivery networks for TV Everywhere. MediaFirst builds on Ericsson Mediaroom 2.5, the latest release of the multiscreen IPTV platform and is expected to be available in the second quarter of 2015.

At the core of MediaFirst is the MediaFirst TV Platform, a software-defined platform for the creation, management and delivery of pay TV. Currently in trials with a targeted set of operators, the platform is offered as a software as a service. It's based on an open and standards-based approach and designed to be cloud agnostic for delivery on public and OpenStack private clouds.

Features include support for traditional pay TV and OTT, personalization, unified search, and a single operator dashboard portal.
