The SCTE and CableLabs are teaming up to improve energy management for cable, with a focus on reducing energy consumption and costs in facilities, plant, fleets, and the home. CableLabs will focus within the customer premises, and the SCTE's on the remainder of the industry's technical operations.
The increased cooperation includes greater sharing of information and resources, as well as cross-representation to ensure that activities undertaken by either organization are aligned with the needs of the other.
CableLabs and the SCTE will highlight the end-to-end approach via exhibits and sessions next week at Cable-Tec Expo in Denver, including:
- Demonstration at the CableLabs exhibit of "sleep mode" on a Samsung six-tuner DOCSIS 3.0 set-top box, designed to reduce power draw by 40%
- The SCTE's Energy 2020 session
- Workshop sessions on "Optimizing Energy Consumption" and "Ensuring Energy"
- Show floor exhibits that will feature or include products and solutions designed to address cable's energy needs
