MODE-GAP, a European collaborative R&D project, has been officially recognized by the Guinness Book of Records for achieving the highest data transmission rate over hollow-core optical fiber.

Collaborating within the MODE-GAP project, scientists and engineers have achieved a data transmission rate of 57.6 Tbps (gross rate of 73.7 Tbps) over hollow core optical fiber on Coriant's testbed facility. The R&D group says the record is 50 times faster than the previous record.
