AT&T (NYSE:T) plans to expand its GigaPower network to certain areas of Houston, TX, and Overland Park, KS. The telco is deploying additional fiber and electronics to its existing networks in both cities to create all-fiber networks capable of symmetrical broadband speeds up to 1 Gbps. The plans also involve TV services with the ability to watch and record five simultaneous HD streams and a 1 TB capacity DVR.
Specific locations of availability and pricing for the Houston and Overland Park markets will be announced later. AT&T is also considering other Houston areas - Galveston, Pasadena, Pearland, and Spring - as candidates for the service. In Kansas City, the telco is considering expanding to Kansas City itself, Independence, Leawood, and Shawnee.
