Texas telco GVTC Communications is launching its GVTC GigaRegion fiber network in the cities of Boerne, Bulverde, and Gonzales, TX. The GigaRegion is a public/private partnership among GVTC and the three municipalities, intended to provide gigabit Internet service.

Based on GPON technology from Calix (NYSE:CALX), including the E7-20 Ethernet Service Access Platform (ESAP) and 700GE family of ONTs, the fiber network is designed to bring data speeds of 1 Gbps via 2,200 miles of fiber to 39,000 homes, businesses, and other institutions just north of San Antonio. GVTC plans to offer voice, video, data and security monitoring services throughout the GigaRegion beginning in September.
