Active Broadband Networks has announced the availability of the Active Resource Controller (ARC), an SDN controller for the broadband service edge. Based on the company's Active Resource Manager platform, the ARC incorporates SDN protocols for dynamic control of NFV infrastructure; IP flow telemetry data for visibility into network; service, subscriber and application usage; and big data analytics.

The ARC is designed to use OpenFlow to dynamically control packet flow processing in broadband NFV infrastructure. It integrates several service control capabilities in a modular platform designed to be deployed in different configurations based on operator requirements. It performs in-line mediation on stream telemetry data to gain visibility into network conditions, service utilization and subscriber behavior, including application visibility for subscriber traffic flows using IPFIX and NetFlow. The ARC uses this data for real-time subscriber and service profiling.
