Time Warner Cable (NYSE:TWC) announced the coming release of Fan TV, a combination of video streaming and discovery with a touchscreen remote. Fan TV is available for pre-order now and is expected to ship in Q2 of 2014.
Fan TV presents subscribers' TWC TV content together with on-demand streaming services on one screen. The first wave of streaming services will include Redbox Instant, Crackle and Target Ticket, as well as the Rhapsody streaming music service. More streaming services will be added over time.
In other TWC news, the MSO is now delivering Internet speeds up to 300 Mbps to customers in several New York City and Los Angeles communities following network upgrades based on DOCSIS 3.0. TWC has boosted speeds for all its residential Internet plans in Costa Mesa and West Hollywood in California and in areas of Woodside (in Queens) and Staten Island in New York City.
TWC customers in these communities who subscribe to the Standard Internet plan, formerly up to 15 Mbps, will now receive up to 50 Mbps, and customers who subscribe to the Ultimate plan, formerly up to 100 Mbps, will receive up to 300 Mbps at no extra charge.
