San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro is hot to bring Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) Fiber to the city. Yesterday, Google listed San Antonio as one of 34 cities it's considering for Google Fiber expansion. In 2010, San Antonio was one of more than 1,100 American cities that applied for Google Fiber, but lost out to Kansas City.

"San Antonians deserve faster Internet speeds and better broadband access," Castro said in a statement. "We're working hard to make that happen - and I'm confident that we will accomplish our goal."

Google will work with San Antonio city leaders on a joint planning process to explore what it would take to build a fiber network capable of gigabit speeds.
