A file-based transcoder, Harmonic's ProMedia Xpress now supports HEVC - which offers up to 50% better compression efficiency than H.264 - and the UltraHD format for VOD applications.
MicroGrid parallel computing technology speeds up transcoding by splitting large processing tasks into multiple tasks, each of which is completed concurrently. Improved synergy between ProMedia Origin servers and the MediaGrid shared-storage system optimizes the launch of OTT time-shifted services. Storage capacity and bandwidth can be scaled independently.Additionally, leveraging new Intel chipsets, ProMedia Xpress supports flexible ABR closed captioning and subtitling, ad insertion through event signaling and management, Nielson ID3 tagging, and regional blackout management. The platform works with a variety of digital rights management systems, media asset management systems, and content distribution networks.www.harmonicinc.comSee them at Cable-Tec Expo, Booth 1154Return to the BTR Diamond Technology Reviews Elite.
