The Fujikura 70S is a core alignment fusion splicer. Its portability, ruggedness and ability to ensure "quick, high quality repeatable splices in all conditions" led Diamonds judges to single out this product with an honorable mention.
A programmable, automated wind protector closes to initiate the splice process and opens upon completion. Another feature automatically opens the sheath clamp after the tensile test to prepare the fiber for removal. An automated clamshell design tube heater heats both sides of the splice protection sleeve bringing the shrink time down to 14 seconds. The overall splice process time is reduced by >50% to 21 seconds. The splicer is dust and rainproof, and a six-direction drop-proof design and ruggedized casing protects it from damage. Additionally, a 4.73-inch color LCD monitor provides 300X fiber magnification, which helps with visibility in low light. The battery supports 200 splices and heating cycles before needing to be recharged.www.aflglobal.comSee them at Cable-Tec Expo, Booth 1200Return to the BTR Diamond Technology Reviews Elite.
