Dubbed a "standout in the dense QAM marketplace" by Diamonds judges, the NSG Pro is a CCAP system that offers what Harmonic calls an "easy upgrade path" to future integrated CMTS capabilities. Operators can use the universal edge QAM capabilities and install RF matrix cards today and add CMTS upstream line cards to the same chassis when needed. Thus, they can avoid recabling as they migrate to CCAP, Harmonic says.
Downstream line cards can be added at any time to increase the number of RF ports. As for density, there are up to eight downstream ports per rack unit, with up to 72 service groups per chassis. QAMs are activated via a software license and can be dynamically reconfigured for different services. Power requirements are such that operations can be scaled without scaling power. Diamonds judges applauded this, noting that power and space are "becoming more and more a scarce commodity."www.harmonicinc.comSee them at Cable-Tec Expo, Booth 1154Return to the BTR Diamond Technology Reviews Elite.
