Broadcom Announces 1.6-Gig Gateway Chip

Broadcom (NASDAQ:BRCM) announced a new hybrid cable gateway set-top box system on a chip (SoC) for whole home connectivity and content sharing. The BCM7145 is designed to combine DOCSIS 3.0 and Gigabit wireless gateway functionality with HEVC video decoders and a quad video transcoder onto a single piece of silicon.
