thePlatform, Comcast's (NASDAQ:CMCSA) white-label video publishing company, has unveiled an enhanced video Player Service based on HTML5 in an effort to create a common video player that can be rendered across different browsers and devices. The Player Service is designed as a simple console, so non-technical users can build their own video players, choosing layout templates, skins, color schemes, and more. The service defaults to HTML5, but is designed to switch to Flash if needed. The company's mpx publishing system automatically associates all the metadata and business policies for each video across both HTML5 and Flash players.
