The SCTE has approved SCTE 79-3 2011, DOCSIS 2.0 + IPv6 Cable Modem Standard. The standard is an extension to the DOCSIS 2.0 family of specifications, which define high-speed data-over-cable systems. ANSI/SCTE 79-1 requires the DOCSIS 2.0 modem to support IPv4 for provisioning and management, while the new standard provides IPv6 provisioning and management functionality for DOCSIS 2.0 modems, connected IPv6 eSAFEs, and external CPE devices.
