RCN has introduced QuickMode and HD Notify user interface features on its existing video service powered by TiVo (NASDAQ:TIVO), a hybrid system for both cable and streaming video. The new features are scheduled to be rolled out to all of RCN's markets by the end of January, including Boston, Chicago, Lehigh Valley (PA), New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, DC.

QuickMode includes a six-tuner DVR designed to play back recordings and cached content on live TV 30% faster than normal. HD Notify allows HD customers to immediately see if the program they are watching is available in HD. The feature will automatically jump to that channel with the touch of a button.
