Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA) announced its latest Xfinity Wireless Gateway, the DPC3941T, a combination router and modem that the MSO says offers fastest in-home WiFi available. The Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO) box uses componentry from Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) and Qualcomm Atheros.
The new gateway uses 802.11ac WiFi technology, a 3x3 MIMO design and is built to the MoCA 2.0 standard. It's designed for 1.3 Gbps of throughput, 80 MHz wide WiFi channel support, and 256-QAM modulation. Third-party lab tests by Allion Engineering Services demonstrated more than 700 Mbps of actual throughput. It's expected to be available later this fall in select markets and over time across Comcast's footprint.
