PathTrak PNM is designed to find upstream impairments in the HFC plant that should be fixed to pre-empt failure. These are impairments that DOCSIS pre-equalization is supposed to compensate for in order to maintain quality of experience (QoE). The system mines pre-equalization coefficient data from customer cable modems, analyzes it, and presents information that can be used to target proactive network maintenance.
Specifically, modems with statistically similar upstream RF signatures are grouped together as an indicator that their upstream packets are passing through the same impairments. The end result is a list of high value service targets that suggest the issues that if fixed, would affect the highest number of customers with the most severe upstream impairments.
