TDS extends 2Gig internet footprint

Aug. 23, 2021
TDS launches 2Gig internet services in Spokane, Washington and Meridian, Idaho.

TDS Fiber announed on Aug. 18 it is now capable of delivering 2Gig (2,000Mbps) internet speeds in Spokane, Washington and Meridian, Idaho. With the 2Gig launch, TDS said it will also offer symmetrical 2Gig internet, meaning download and upload speeds are identical.

This year, TDS Fiber launched its full-fiber network in Spokane in nine neighborhoods. As fiber construction projects are completed, TDS will continue to launch its services in phases. In June, TDS Fiber announced it was expanding in Spokane County and Spokane Valley with the network ready to connect 22,000 addresses in Spokane County, including the City of Millwood, and 46,000 addresses in Spokane Valley. TDS began building a 1,100-mile fiber-to-the-home network to Spokane in 2020. The network will ultimately connect more than 88,000 homes and businesses across the community.

Meanwhile, earlier this year, TDS Fiber launched its full-fiber network in four neighborhoods in Meridian. As fiber construction projects are completed, TDS will continue to launch its services in phases. The network will ultimately connect more than 57,000 homes and businesses across the communities of Meridian, Garden City, and the Town of Boise.

TDS said it will now launch 2Gig speeds in all of its new markets. The company's launch of 2Gig internet services officially doubles the previous max speed offer from TDS Telecom.

“The technology offers reliable speeds residents are looking for now more than ever, especially for those working at home, going to school, or staying in touch with family and friends online,” said Julie Maiers, vice president of TDS Marketing and Product Development. “2Gig provides the best online experience for streamers, gamers, social media users, and families with multiple users.”
