Bell Canada rings in 3-Gbps fiber internet service

April 12, 2022
Bell contends its new symmetrical 3-Gbps internet service offering is the fastest available from “any major provider in Canada.”

The desire among consumers and businesses to access the internet via a greater number of devices is creating burgeoning demand for higher-speed services. In response to such demand, Bell Canada says it now offers symmetrical 3-Gbps internet services that it contends are the fastest available from “any major provider in Canada.”

The new service comes as Bell embarks on a major fiber to the premises (FTTP) expansion effort. The initial network rollout targets parts of Toronto, with availability increasing to other service areas this year.

The fiber broandband deployments will conclude up a two-year initiative that will find the operator spending almost CAN$10 billion on FTTP, 5G, and rural network buildouts.

The new fiber network construction adds to the approximately $4 billion in capex Bell reports it typically invests in broadband network infrastructure and expansion annually.

The company expects to reach up to 900,000 more homes and businesses across much of Canada with FTTP this year.

Blaik Kirby, group president, Consumer and Small and Medium Business, for Bell, commented, "With total speeds three times faster than cable, our customers can now get download speeds of 3 Gbps and upload speeds of 3 Gbps. We look forward to continuing to deliver the speed and reliability that our customers need so that they can do what they need to do online even faster."
