Consolidated Communications (NASDAQ:CNSL) has selected the MOBITV CONNECT Platform to power its new IP-based TV service, CCiTV, providing multiscreen video programming to customers. This new service will deliver content from nearly 200 live local, national, and premium channels, local broadcast channels, regional sports networks, and others. The new service initially is available to subscribers in southern Maine with plans to expand service later this year.

"We're pleased to play such an integral role in Consolidated's new offering and proud to bring the future of television to their subscribers," said Charlie Nooney, CEO and chairman of MOBITV. "The customizable MOBITV CONNECT Platform, combined with the fiber-optic network and customer service from Consolidated Communications, makes for a powerful app-based TV solution that prioritizes the user experience."

The MOBITV CONNECT platform contains an interface that can be customized according to the service provider's content and design preferences. By using IPTV and a "bring-your-own-device" method of service delivery, the platform is a cost-conscious option that does not require customers to purchase additional hardware or incur setup fees. The platform includes on-demand, live TV, catchup TV, unlimited network DVR, and recommendations. The SaaS-based platform is also deigned to allow for real-time enablement of new technologies, such as 4K cloud DVR, replay TV, and voice control without replacing legacy set-top boxes in the home. Customers can download the app and view television on any of their connected devices.

"CCiTV goes well beyond basic television services to provide next-gen streaming TV with the modern features our subscribers want," said Rob Koester, vice president of consumer product management at Consolidated Communications. "Partnering with MOBITV allows us to deliver a cost-effective next-generation TV service and enhanced user experience. Consolidated also benefits from MOBITV's IP delivery, which reduces the capital expense associated with additional hardware in the home and the ability to transition to the service without a major rip-and-replace installation."
