At CES 2016 in Las Vegs, FreeCast will unveil its OTT set-top box, Select TV, due to hit big box retailers early this year.
Select TV is intended for online video delivery of more than 350,000 TV episodes, 200,000 movies, 1,000 web channels, local over-the-air (OTA) channels from the major networks, live events and concerts, more than 50,000 streaming radio stations, music videos, and games. The content is sourced from free, pay-per-view, and subscription sources. The service, which will cost $2.99 per month, is also designed to serve as a hub for a connected home and allow any video monitor or flat panel to function as a smart TV.
The device itself has DVR features, an app and download manager, screen-casting, and HD multiplayer gaming. It also includes productivity tools including web browsing, word processing and e-mail utilizing MS Office, support for external and cloud-based storage, as well as integrated home security and automation services.
In a statement, FreeCast CEO William Mobley said, in part, "It's beyond a simple app manager or set top box; It's a full PC running Windows 10, so it really takes the entertainment lifestyle experience to the next level."
