At the Cable Show, Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA) ran a demonstration of 4K UltraHD video over HFC, as well as a preview of its upcoming X2, the next generation of its cloud-enabled X1 Platform from Xfinity.Comcast Chairman and CEO Brian Roberts showed a 3+ Gbps broadband connection by opening an email and downloading a 4K Ultra HD video file to a PC in seconds. The MSO also demonstrated the first public U.S.-based delivery of 4K Ultra HD video over its existing HFC network.X2 is planned to be available to customers later this year. The next generation of the cloud-based X1 Platform is designed to provide more personalized recommendations on multiple screens, as well as to integrate live and on-demand TV, web content, home control and a growing number of apps in one user interface.
