According to Parks Associates, broadband providers, driven by subscriber adoption of connected consumer electronics and the need for new revenues, will deploy more than 120 million routers and residential gateways worldwide in 2017, achieving a CAGR of 9.5% from 2012.The research house says the average U.S. broadband household has approximately four TV sets and TV-connected devices, three mobile/portable devices, and 2.5 computing devices. Consumer adoption of connected CE is expected to continue in 2013, with more than 17 million smart TVs expected to be sold in North America in 2013. Routers and residential gateways are they key to getting all these devices to interact, and also to introduce new services such as multiscreen video and home automation.
