According to Infonetics Research, the fastest growing new services that operators are offering over residential gateways are smart home services, such as automation and security, and multiscreen video. Others include online gaming and video telephony. Infonetics says gateways are a better fit than basic modems for these types of services because they can be remotely managed and provisioned, have an open application layer, and offer higher throughput and greater security features.
