The OTU-5000 is the latest hardware addition to VIAVI's fiber monitoring assurance solutions: ONMSi and SmartOTU. ONMSi is a full fiber plant assurance solution that is used to proactively detect breaks and faults in the fiber network and to geo-map the fiber plant to accelerate repairs and help providers proactively maintain their plant. SmartOTU is a point solution that is often used at critical locations such as a data center interconnect. Both these software tools rely on the OTU (Optical Test Unit) - composed of an OTDR, port capacity and a switch - to inject an OTDR trace into the network.
