SD Switchoff in Sight?

According to Digital TV Research, HDTV household penetration will soon be high enough in developed countries for broadcasters and pay TV operators to consider ending their standard definition (SD) transmissions. The research house expects HD-ready penetration to double from 25.9% at end-2011 to 50.9% in 2016. However, HD-ready penetration is expected to be higher than 80% in 18 countries by 2016.
