According to a survey by Irdeto, consumers expect to be using a mixture of a la carte Internet TV and pay TV services by 2020. The research indicated that only 18% of consumers surveyed in the United States expect to watch most content through pay TV services vs. 21% of UK consumers; 27% of U.S. consumers expect to watch most content through Internet TV services like Netflix or Amazon Prime vs. 11% in the UK.

Other findings indicate the growing importance of multiscreen viewing devices such as smart TVs, smartphones, tablets, game consoles, and OTT dongles.
