    Avail-TVN's (www.avail-tvn.com) new 3D VOD movie offering launches today with Verizon (www.verizon.com) FiOS and will offer feature films from most of the major studios. The service does not require any additional equipment, but does require over-the-air software updates for set-tops. The company is using frame-compatible stereoscopic compression to transmit 3D files at the same rate and with the same bandwidth requirements as 2D HD. Titles are available in both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4.
