Harmonic is introducing a new software suite called ProMedia, which encompasses video transcoding, packaging and origination to optimize multiscreen and production workflows. Content creators and service providers using ProMedia can implement a scalable, efficient and flexible infrastructure for their live and on-demand services delivered to IP-enabled devices including smart phones, tablets, PCs and connected TVs, says the company. According to Harmonic, operators deploying ProMedia benefit from Harmonic video quality expertise and the company’s experience with dozens of multiscreen service deployments and hundreds of web and mobile transcoding implementations. Easily added to existing broadcast video infrastructures, the company says the new Harmonic ProMedia family uses a standards-based architecture; supports numerous input, editing and output formats; and is integrated with leading DRM, CDN and asset management systems. Harmonic solutions for high-value multiscreen video services have been successfully deployed by leading satellite, telco, cable, and broadcast operators in North America; cable, telco, and mobile operators in Europe; and a key CDN operator in the Middle East.
